The Bone Health Center of Delaware Valley is a comprehensive center dedicated to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of Osteoporosis. Dr. Shank and Dr. Hope use the General Electric Lunar Prodigy Advance DXA (DEXA) Unit, the newest and most advanced bone mineral density machine available. The Bone Health Center also offers incredibly accurate body composition analyses. The Bone Health Center is conveniently located near the Granite Run Mall on Granite Drive, behind the Toys R' Us store on Baltimore Pike.
Hours are by appointment only. Some Saturdays are available. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 610-891-8811. Cancellation requires 24 hours notice. Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing is covered by most insurance plans.
Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Test
A BMD test using DXA technology is a simple, quick, and painless procedure. This test analyzes the strength of your bones in your lower back and hips, and compares your bone strength to an international standard. The test assigns a "T" score to your bone density, which your doctor will use to suggest appropriate therapy to restore bone strength and prevent further weakening. The current recommendation is to have a BMD test every two years after menopause.
The Bone Health Center also offers body composition analysis to assist obese or overweight individuals in their fight against developing stroke, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, arthritis, and some cancers. The DXA Scanner shows an accurate body fat distribution profile. Once your body composition is determined, your physician, professional trainer, or weight loss counselor can use your profile to maximize your weight loss efforts. Body composition analysis is also used by competitive athletes.
